History of the Faculty

Our Dental School

The Faculty of Dentistry was founded in 1979 as the first dental academic center in the Northeast of Thailand. The faculty is dedicated to the training of competent dentists with a research-oriented mind. The training is based on a wide range of contemporary patient care programs with a holistic approach. The most important goal of the faculty is to produce high-quality dentists, for most of whom work in the Northeastern regional hospitals.

The dental curriculum is specifically designed to give the students the most practical settings. The academic program allows the students the flexibility to pursue their goals while achieving high standards. Graduate students also have the opportunity to combine academic qualifications in basic science and dental specialty to meet their needs.

The KKU Dental Hospital offers comprehensive and first-rate oral health care to more than 80,000 patients a year including adults, children, and disadvantaged patients. Both simple and complicated patient care is delivered. The faculty has expanded its service capacity by opening a semi-private Special Care Dental Clinic which operates every weekday in day time and evening as well as weekends. One of our charity services, the Royal Mobile Dental Clinic is arranged regularly throughout the year in collaboration with community hospitals and charity organizations to provide dental treatments and oral health education to the needy people in the remote areas.

The Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University is the only academic center for postgraduate dentistry and international translational research that is based in northeast Thailand. We offer an extensive range of globally competitive academic offerings including certificate programs, residency training programs,
Master’s degrees and Doctorate degree. Locally, we partner with the Thai National Health Service and industry sponsors. We also pride ourselves with many long-standing collaborations with respectable international dental institutions all over the world. Our graduates continue to become leading clinical specialists, consultants, senior lecturers and post-doctoral researchers.
