Department of Oral Biomedical Sciences The Faculty of Dentistry was established on August 22, 2561, according to the announcement of Khon Kaen University No. 2278/2561 to comply with the university's administration guidelines that aim to increase the efficiency of the unit and emphasize the integration of teaching, research, and academic services. The main concept of the department is "Integration of Oral Science and Health".

Division of Oral Biology Formerly known as the Department of Oral Biology, it was established together with the Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University on May 14, 2522 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Poonthrap, the dean at that time. Later in 2533, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prateep Phanthumwanich, D.D.S., was the head of the department. He added teaching credits in various subjects related to oral biology at the undergraduate level, such as oral biochemistry, oral physiology, oral microbiology, oral pharmacology, and oral-facial pain. In the 2547 revision of the Bachelor of Dentistry curriculum, the number of credits of the said subjects was reduced to facilitate better integration in the curriculum. Currently, the department has 7 lecturers, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jarin Paphankrakit, D.D.S., as the head of the Oral Biology Department and the head of the Oral Biomedical Sciences Department.

Progress-Pride

  1. Established a resident dentist training program in the field of masticatory dentistry and oral-facial pain.
  2. Established the Neuroscience Research and Development Group (NRDG), Khon Kaen University, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thikayu Plangkhun Johns as the research group leader.

  4. Dental floss innovation "Thai Pradit" is the development of natural silk into herbal-coated dental floss and has been patented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Somkiat Luengphairin, Assoc. Prof. Watcharee Kunkitti, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwimol Tawichaisupapong, and Mr. Chaiporn Pattanajak. It received the Gold Medal and the Mahbiwa Special Award from Saudi Arabia.

Division of Periodontology Formerly known as the Department of Periodontics, it was established on May 14, 2522. In the early stages, Assoc. Prof. Itsara Yuktanan, who was the first dean of the faculty, was the acting head of the Department of Periodontics and Assoc. Prof. Arun Thirakphong was a lecturer in the department. During that period, the department received the kindness of many special lecturers from Bangkok who sacrificed their time to come and teach periodontics, such as Assoc. Prof. Phusadee Yotneungnit, Assoc. Prof. Han Narong Lamyai, Asst. Prof. Sittiporn Thepbanthing, etc. Later, the department opened to accept more lecturers such as Asst. Prof. Duangporn Chirawibul, Asst. Prof. Wivat Phuengprasit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apa Chantawee, Asst. Prof. Nopadol Chueajaroenwasuchai. He is a pioneering lecturer. In the academic year 2536, the department offered a Graduate Diploma in Periodontics. Later in the academic year 2543, the Graduate Diploma in Periodontics curriculum was revised to accept students in the academic year 2544. Furthermore, the department offered a Master of Science in Periodontics and has a project to open a specialist program and an international program for graduate students from neighboring countries to further develop the work in the periodontics field. In 2561, the structure of the departments within the Faculty of Dentistry was adjusted, changing from the Department of Periodontics to the Periodontics Division, under the Division of Oral Biomedical Sciences. Currently, the department has 7 lecturers in total, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Dusadee Homdee as the head of the department.

Initiated an academic assistance project for developing countries in the Mekong Subregion and ASEAN Community with support from Khon Kaen University at University of Health Sciences, Lao PDR.
