Faculty of Dentistry, KKU organizes the 9th International Workshop on Clinical Research Methods in Oral Health

The Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University (KKU) organized the 9th International Workshop on Clinical Research Methods in Oral Health” during February 19 – 23, 2024 at Khon Kaen University Science Park, Khon Kaen, Thailand. The workshop aimed to enforce the quality of research in oral health in Southeast Asia by providing intensive courses including Research Methods & Evidence-based Dentistry, Behavioral Research in Dentistry, Ethnical Issues in Research, Biostatistics, and Study Design. Moreover, 19 invited speakers and mentors from leading institutions including University of Washington, USA, Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia, Khon Kaen University, Thammasat University, and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, shared their expertise through a number of lectures and group discussion to apply the knowledge learnt from classes.

The opening ceremony took place on February 21, 2024. On this occasion, Assoc.Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, the President of Khon Kaen University gave the opening speech to welcome all guests, speakers, and 42 participants from 10 countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. This workshop is a component of the project entitled “Clinical and Public Health Research Training in Oral Health for Southeast Asia,” which receives funding for a five-year period (2022-2027) from the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and Fogarty International Center (FIC), both under the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The workshop offers participants practical learning opportunities and facilitates the exchange of experiences with fellow participants, speakers, and mentors from diverse institutions. This fosters the continual development of knowledge in dental research.

The project is spearheaded by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Waranuch Pitiphat, Director of Clinical & Public Health Research in the Oral Health Training Program for Southeast Asia at the Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with the University of Washington, USA, Khon Kaen University, and Thammasat University, Thailand, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam, University of the Philippines-Manila, Philippines, Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia, and Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. This initiative presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance research quality and disseminate updated knowledge in this field across Southeast Asian countries. The workshop will be conducted annually, with the primary objective of equipping young researchers with the foundational skills necessary to conduct high-quality research in Oral Health.
